700 West Medical Oncology is an inviting and welcoming unit for both patients and staff. We are a 17-room, mostly private bed, unit. Our nursing staff is highly skilled in caring for oncology, end-of-life, and medical-surgical patients. Registered Nurses administer chemotherapy, assist in symptom management of cancer and other illnesses, provide end-of-life care, and perform many other nursing skills to care for patients. RNs work closely with other medical disciplines to provide excellent patient care and outcomes. Our unit is equipped with the latest technology, including the new virtual nursing program. We have an excellent and active educator and nurses receive continuing education to ensure they are current with best practice guidelines.

The Oncology Registered Nurse provides direct patient care specializing in the administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements, and other oncology treatments as prescribed. Nursing care is focused on specialized assessment, diagnosis, planning, treatment, evaluation, education, and support for the patient and family. The Oncology Registered Nurse is skilled with peripheral intravenous catheter insertion, accessing implanted ports, and the care and management of central lines and implanted ports.
