  Job Summary

    • The The Skin/Wound/Ostomy nurse specializes in the management of patients with urinary and fecal diversions (i.e. ostomies), draining wounds and fistulas, fecal and urinary incontinence, and acute and chronic wounds such as post-operative surgical wounds requiring packing or negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), pressure ulcers and vascular ulcers. The nurse must be able to assess patient condition, administer medications, change dressings, manage NPWT pumps (wound vacs), and mark ostomy sites pre-operatively. The Skin/Wound/Ostomy nurse provides support and education to patients and their families, including but not limited to pre and post-operative teaching, wound care, ostomy care, and ostomy appliance maintenance/trouble-shooting.

Job Requirements

    • Education
      • Required: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
      • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
    • Experience
      • Preferred: One year of bedside nursing experience within the last five years
      • Preferred: Previous recent acute care med/surg nursing experience
      • Preferred: Wound and/or Ostomy experience
    • Skills
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Demonstrate effective leadership abilities
      • Exhibits valuable time management skills
      • Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills
      • Flexibility and ability to work in a multi-tasking environment

 

      • Licensure/Certification/Registration
      • Required: RN license active in the state of Missouri
      • Required: BLS must be obtained within 90 days of hire
      • Required: Must obtain CWON, CWCN, COCN, CWOCN, CWS, WCC, or OMS certification from NAWCO, WOCNCB, or ABWM within 24 months of hire.
