Summary

  • Job Summary
    • A Flight Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) responsible for providing medical care and rapid transport to critically ill or injured patients in the air medical environment. Responsible for learning and maintaining competency in advanced skills pertinent to practice as a flight nurse and in conjunction with flight program protocols. A Flight Nurse demonstrates ability to provide care and treatment to the air medical patient based upon department protocols and industry standards. Is responsible for providing patient care in an elevated risk environment (helicopters) and collaborating to reduce risk and promote safe practices. A Flight Nurse functions collaboratively with aviation staff (pilots and mechanics) and the Cox Air Care Medical Director (physician).
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • Required: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
      • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
    • Experience
      • Required: Minimum of 4 years critical care and/or Emergency Department experience
      • Preferred: Previous flight nurse or pre-hospital experience
    • Skills
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Demonstrates effective leadership abilities
      • Exhibits valuable time management skills
      • Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills
      • Flexibility and ability to work in a multi-tasking environment.
    • Licensure/Certification/Registration
      • Required: RN license active in the state of Missouri 
      • Required: BLS, ACLS and PALS certified within 90 days of hire
