Summary

  Job Summary
  • Reports to the System Director of Insurance and Risk Management and is responsible for the management of property, fiduciary, automobile, general liability, and medical liability lines of insurance including subrogation recovery on behalf of the health system. Responsible for management of complex professional liability claims which may require travel to healthcare facilities, depositions, mediations and trials. Management of day-to-day claims development by directing and coordinating investigations, determining legal liability, and assessing damages. Sets, maintains and justifies appropriate reserves taking into consideration the projection of claims payments and verdicts. Participation in diverse work groups to mitigate liability exposure and negotiate settlements while maintaining the claims database and legal documentation. Provides control and direction of defense counsel litigation activities, which includes case strategy, settlement negotiations and/or trial preparation. Responsible for risk and claims management activities including identification and management of potentially compensable events including write-offs, determination of waived billing and other service measures. Assures timely notification of claims to commercial insurers. Responsible for developing and implementing programs as necessary to comply with risk related regulatory and accrediting agency requirements as well as risk education and mitigation programs for the system.
 
  Job Requirements
  • Education
    • Required: Bachelor’s degree
    • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or closely-related field (e.g. BSN, MBA, MHA, JD, Insurance Claims Management)
  • Experience
    • Required: At least 5 years of professional liability claims experience
    • Preferred: Experience in medical risk management and claims management
