  • Job Summary
    • The role of the Prior Authorization Specialist is to centrally coordinate, obtain, review, and track prior authorizations for medications and other home care needs. The goal of the Prior Authorization Specialist is to work with other departments in order to complete prior authorizations through the various methods that are required by insurers.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent, along with Medical Assistant Certification or Pharmacy Technician Certification from a program recognized by CoxHealth; or Graduate of a licensed practical nursing program

    • Experience
      • Required: At least one year experience as a Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, or LPN experience
    • Skills
      • Strong customer service skills when working with various staff members.
      • Have professional verbal and written communication skills.
      • Ability to work independently and be self-directed to complete prior authorizations in a timely manner.
      • Possess excellent time management skills.
      • Proficient using computers, including all Microsoft programs and promote the mission and values of CoxHealth
    • Licensure/Certification/Registration
      • Required: Must obtain American Heart Association BLS within 90 days of hire
      • Required: One of the following
        • CMA (AAMA – American Association of Medical Assistants)
        • RMA (AMT – American Medical Technologist)
        • NCMA (NCCT - National Center for Competency Testing)
        • CCMA (NHA – National Health career Association)
        • NRCMA (NAHP - National Association for Health Professionals
        • Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board OR application completed upon hire and obtained within 90 days of hire
        • MO LPN License
