Job Summary
The Skin/Wound/Ostomy nurse specializes in the management of patients with urinary and fecal diversions (i.e. ostomies), draining wounds and fistulas, fecal and urinary incontinence, and acute and chronic wounds such as post-operative surgical wounds requiring packing or negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), pressure ulcers and vascular ulcers. The nurse must be able to assess patient condition, administer medications, change dressings, manage NPWT pumps (wound vacs), and mark ostomy sites pre-operatively. The Skin/Wound/Ostomy nurse provides support and education to patients and their families, including but not limited to pre and post-operative teaching, wound care, ostomy care, and ostomy appliance maintenance/trouble-shooting.
Job Requirements
Education
Required: Graduate of an approved nursing program
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Experience
Required: One year of bedside nursing experience within the last five years
Preferred: Previous recent acute care med/surg nursing experience
Preferred: Wound and/or Ostomy experience
Skills
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Required: MO RN license
Required: BLS must be obtained within 90 days of hire
Required: Must obtain a CWOCN, CWS, or CWCA certification from NAWCO, WOCNCB, or ABWM within 2 years of hire
